OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced the "Quality Control Order for Electric Ceiling Type Fans, 2023," slated to be effective six months after its publication date.
As per the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, Small Enterprises will adhere to the order nine months post-publication, while Micro Enterprises will comply within twelve months from the publication date.
Products categorized as Electric Ceiling Type Fans must comply with Indian Standard IS 374:2019 (Electric Ceiling Type Fans - Specification) and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers are obligated to secure a license from the Bureau under Scheme-1 outlined in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
It's essential to highlight that this directive does not encompass domestically manufactured goods intended for export.
Furthermore, products manufactured domestically by enterprises registered on the "Udyam portal" of the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, and meeting particular financial criteria, are granted exemption.
The Bureau holds the dual role of being both the certifying and enforcing authority for Electric Ceiling Type Fans.
Violation of this order may lead to penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
This regulatory measure is geared towards guaranteeing the quality and safety of Electric Ceiling Type Fans in the market, promoting adherence to established standards for the advantage of consumers and industry participants.
