Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Asbestos or Fibre Cement based Products (Fibre Cement Flat Sheets) (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a new Quality Control Order concerning products crafted from Asbestos or Fibre Cement.

The effective date will be six months following its publication in the Official Gazette.

This order requires compliance with Indian Standard 14862:2000 for products like Fibre Cement Flat Sheets.

To show conformity, these products must display the Standard Mark issued under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, according to Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

However, it's important to note some exceptions within this order. Firstly, it does not apply to domestically manufactured goods or articles intended for export.

However, small enterprises, as defined in clause (m) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), are exempt from this order until nine months after its publication date.

Similarly, micro enterprises, defined in clause (h) of section 2 of the same Act, are exempt from this order until twelve months after its publication date.

The Bureau of Indian Standards will oversee the certification and enforcement of these standards for the specified goods and articles detailed in the accompanying table.

Non-compliance with this Order will result in penalties imposed on individuals or entities violating its provisions, in accordance with the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
