Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the V-Belts (Transmission Devices – V – Belts endless narrow V-Belts for industrial use) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently implemented a Quality Control Order titled the "V-Belts (Quality Control) Order, 2024."

This order will take effect six months after being published in the Official Gazette.

Under this order, V-Belts must conform to Indian Standard 14261:1995 (Transmission Devices – V – Belts endless narrow V-Belts for industrial use) and prominently display the Standard Mark. This mark necessitates a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It is essential to highlight that this order excludes goods or articles manufactured domestically and intended for export.

Furthermore, micro-enterprises, as defined in clause (h) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), are exempt from these requirements for a period of twelve months from the date of this notification. Small enterprises, as defined in clause (m) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), have a nine-month exemption period starting from the date of this notification.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is authorized as the certifying and enforcing body for products and items associated with V-Belts.

Any individual or entity found breaching this order will face penalties as per the regulations stipulated in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
