Dear Reader,
Key update concerning the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and sellers of Asbestos or Fibre Cement based Products (Fibre Reinforced Cement Products – Long Corrugated or Asymmetrical Section Sheets and Fittings for Roofing and Cladding) under the Quality Control Order of 2023.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a recent Quality Control Order concerning products and items manufactured from Asbestos or Fibre Cement based materials.
It will come into force six months after its publication in the Official Gazette.
This directive requires that these products comply with Indian Standard 14871:2000, specifically addressing Fibre Reinforced Cement Products such as long corrugated or asymmetrical section sheets and fittings used for roofing and cladding.
]To show conformity, these products must display the Standard Mark issued under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in accordance with Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
However, it's important to note some exceptions under this order. Firstly, the order does not cover domestically manufactured goods or articles intended for export.
However, small enterprises, as defined in clause (m) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), are exempt from complying with this order until nine months after the publication date.
Likewise, micro enterprises, defined in clause (h) of section 2 of the same Act, are exempt from this order until twelve months after the publication date.
The Bureau of Indian Standards will oversee the certification and enforcement of these standards, serving as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing the specific goods and articles detailed in the accompanying table.
Non-compliance with the provisions of this Order will lead to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, imposed on individuals or entities found in violation.
