OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced the "Precision Roller and Bush Chains, Attachments, and Associated Chain Sprockets (Quality Control) Order, 2023," which will take effect six months after its publication in the Official Gazette.
Under this directive, products classified as Precision Roller and Bush Chains, Attachments, and Associated Chain Sprockets must adhere to specified standards, namely Indian Standard IS 2403:2014 or ISO 606:2004 (Short-Pitch Transmission Precision Roller and Bush Chains, Attachments, and Associated Chain Sprockets).
To demonstrate compliance with these standards, products must display the Standard Mark, which can be obtained by obtaining a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Please note that this order excludes goods or articles manufactured domestically for export. Furthermore, micro-enterprises, as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, are required to comply within twelve months from the publication date, while small enterprises must adhere within nine months.
The Bureau of Indian Standards is authorized as the certifying and regulatory body for the designated products, including Precision Roller and Bush Chains, Attachments, and Associated Chain Sprockets.
Stakeholders are encouraged to ensure adherence to these standards, as any non-compliance with this order may result in penalties under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
This regulatory measure aims to improve the quality and dependability of these products in the marketplace.
