BIS (Quality Control) Amendment Order for the Methanol

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has announced the "Methanol (Quality Control) Order, 2019," set to come into effect on August 3, 2024.

Products classified as Methanol must comply with Indian Standard 517:1986 and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must acquire a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It's important to highlight that this order excludes goods or articles, specifically Methanol, intended for export, as long as they meet the specifications mandated by the overseas purchaser.

Under this order, the Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the principal authority responsible for certifying and ensuring compliance with the Standard Mark for Methanol.

Furthermore, the District Industries Centre within the State Government's Department of Industries will act as an enforcing authority.

This regulatory measure aims to uphold the quality and conformity of Methanol in the market, promoting standardized practices to benefit consumers and the chemical industry.
