The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued the Quality Control Amendment Order, 2025, covering Air Conditioners, Hermetic Compressors, Temperature Sensing Controls, and Related Parts. This order aligns with Indian Standard IS 10617:2018, which specifies Hermetic Compressors.

This amendment is effective immediately upon publication in the Official Gazette and introduces key provisions:

Exemptions & Special Provisions

Hermetic Compressors Over 7000 W (2 TR) Capacity:Exempted for one year.

Research & Development Imports: Manufacturers can import up to 200 units annually for R&D purposes, provided these are not sold commercially.

Pre-Amendment Stock: Air conditioners and related parts manufactured or imported before the amendment’s commencement may be sold until March 31, 2024, subject to a declaration to the Bureau.

Sales & Maintenance Allowance: Certified manufacturers can sell up to 6,000 hermetic compressors and heat exchangers annually for maintenance and sales for three years, with a declaration requirement.

Export-Oriented Exemption: Hermetic compressors and heat exchangers imported for export-focused manufacturing are exempt, as specified in the export order.
