The Central Government, after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), has introduced the Laboratory Glassware (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024, which comes into effect on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

Key Provisions:

1. Exemptions for Domestic Enterprises:

1. The Order does not apply for a period of two years to goods or articles manufactured domestically by enterprises registered on the Udyam portal under the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Investment in plant and machinery or equipment at original cost does not exceed ₹25 lakhs.

2. Annual turnover does not exceed ₹2 crores for the previous financial year.

3. Certification by a Chartered Accountant is mandatory.

Exemptions for Imported Goods:

1. Up to 200 goods or articles annually imported for research and development purposes by laboratory glassware manufacturers are exempted, subject to the following conditions:

   • Such goods cannot be sold commercially.

   • Disposal is permitted only as scrap.

   • Manufacturers must maintain yearly records of these goods and provide them to the Central Government.
