BIS Extension QCO FOR THE Cookware, Utensils and Cans for Foods and Beverages

Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Cookware and Utensils (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

Extension QCO For The Cookware, Utensils and Cans for Foods and Beverages

OVERVIEW

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has issued the Extension for Cookware, Utensils, and Cans for Foods and Beverages (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the provisions of section 16 read with section 17 and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This has been notified in supersession of the earlier Cookware, Utensils and Cans for Foods and Beverages (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

As per the Order, goods or articles specified in Column (2) of the Table must comply with the corresponding Indian Standards listed in Column (3) and must bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in line with Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The initial implementation date for this QCO was 1 April 2025. However, with this new notification, the implementation timelines have been revised as follows:

Date of implementation in General (other than micro and small enterprises) is on 1st October, 2025
Date of Implementation for micro enterprises is on 1st April, 2026
Date of Implementation for small enterprises is on 1st January, 2026

Thus, the effective date for complete implementation has been extended to 1 October 2025.

QCO Order New

The Bureau shall be the certifying and enforcing authority for the goods or articles

Any person who contravenes the provisions of this Order shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
