The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024," This Order may be called the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024. It shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. Application This Order applies to the steel and steel products listed in column (3) of Schedule 1 and the goods or articles specified in column (2) of Schedule 2 appended to this Order, except for steel and steel products manufactured domestically for export, which adhere to specifications required by foreign buyers. Conformity to Standards and Essential Requirements All steel and steel products listed in column (3) of Schedule 1 must comply with the respective Indian Standards specified in column (2) of the same schedule, starting from the dates provided in column (5). Each consignment of steel and steel products listed in column (3) of Schedule 1 must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark, issued by a manufacturer certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards. Goods and articles listed under serial number 1 in column (2) of Schedule 2 must meet the essential requirements outlined in column (3) of the same schedule, under a Certificate of Conformity issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards in compliance with Scheme–IV of Schedule–II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Goods and articles listed under serial number 2 in column (2) of Schedule 2 must be made using stainless steel input material specified in column (3) of Schedule 1. Such materials must adhere to the relevant Indian Standards listed in column (2) of Schedule 1, bear the Standard Mark under a licence issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018, and must be accompanied by appropriate documentation. The Bureau of Indian Standards shall be the certifying and enforcing authority in respect of the steel and steel products and the goods and articles specified in this Order Any person who contravenes any of the provisions of this Order shall be punishable under section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
