Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Medical Textiles (Bedsheet and Pillow Cover) (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Textiles has announced an extension of the Quality Control Order, 2023, which will take effect on April 1, 2024. This update is crucial for stakeholders in the textiles industry to ensure compliance with the latest regulations.
This order specifically targets products such as bedsheets and pillow covers, with the exception of items meant for export. To ensure compliance, bedsheets and pillow covers must meet the Indian Standard IS 17630:2021 and prominently display the Standard Mark. This certification is granted through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme – I of Schedule – II outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is the designated certifying and enforcing authority for Reusable Sanitary Pads, Sanitary Napkins, and Period Panties as specified in this Order.
Violations of the provisions outlined in this Order will be subject to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
