Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Medical Textiles (Shoe covers) (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Textiles has announced an extension for the Quality Control Order, 2023, which will take effect on April 1, 2024.
This order specifically pertains to goods such as Shoe covers, excluding those intended for export.
To ensure compliance, shoe covers must meet Indian Standard IS 17349:2020 and prominently display the Standard Mark. This requires a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in line with Scheme – I of Schedule – II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is the official certifying and enforcing authority for shoe covers as outlined in this Order. Any violations of this Order will incur penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
