Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Footwear made from Leather and other Materials (Canvas Boots Rubber Sole) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released the "Quality Control Order, 2024," for footwear crafted from leather and other materials, set to take effect from August 1, 2024.

According to this directive, Canvas Boots with Rubber Soles must comply with Indian Standard IS 3736:1995, focusing on the Specification for Canvas Boots with Rubber Sole. They must also display the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) according to Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

However, this regulation does not extend to goods or items intended for export or produced by micro and small manufacturing units as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006.

Furthermore, manufacturers certified by the BIS or those who have submitted their certification applications before the implementation of this directive can legally declare and sell their existing inventory of footwear products lacking the BIS Mark until June 30, 2025.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for Canvas Boots Rubber Sole.
