Dear Reader,
Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Cookware and Utensils (Quality Control) Order, 2024.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued the "Cookware, Utensils, and Cans for Foods and Beverages (Quality Control) Order 2024."
This order will come into effect on September 1, 2024.
Under this order, items such as Cookware, Utensils, and Cans for foods and beverages must comply with Indian Standard IS 1660:2009 for Wrought Aluminium Utensils. These products must display the Standard Mark after obtaining a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 as outlined in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. It's important to note that this order excludes domestically manufactured products intended solely for export.
Small Enterprises, as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, must comply starting from December 1, 2024, while Micro Enterprises, defined under the same act, are required to comply from March 1, 2025.
Furthermore, products manufactured domestically by an enterprise registered on the "Udyam portal" of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, with restricted investment and turnover, are exempt from compliance with this order.
The Bureau of Indian Standards has been appointed as the certifying and regulatory authority for the goods or articles specified in this order. Failure to comply with the provisions of this order may incur penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
