Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Wood-Based Boards (Block boards) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued the "Wood Based Boards (Quality Control) Order, 2024," scheduled to take effect starting February 11, 2025.

However, enforcement for small enterprises as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, will commence on May 11, 2025, and for micro-enterprises, on August 11, 2025.

According to this order, Block boards must meet Indian Standard 1659:2004 and display the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under Scheme-1 as specified in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations for 2018.

It's important to note that this order excludes domestically manufactured goods or articles intended for export from its scope of application.

The Bureau of Indian Standards will act as the certifying and regulatory authority for Block boards.

Individuals found violating the provisions of this order will face penalties in accordance with the relevant legislation.
