Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Footwear made from Leather and other Materials (Sports Footwear - Part 3 Professional Sports Footwear) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released the "Quality Control Order, 2024," for footwear crafted from leather and other materials. This order is slated to be implemented starting August 1, 2024.

According to this directive, Sports Footwear must comply with Indian Standard IS 15844 (Part-3):2024, focusing on Sports Footwear - Part 3 for Professional Sports Footwear. They must also display the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as outlined in Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

However, this regulation excludes items intended for export or products from micro and small manufacturing units as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006.

Furthermore, manufacturers certified by the BIS or those who have submitted their certification applications before the implementation of this directive can legally declare and sell their existing inventory of footwear products lacking the BIS Mark until June 30, 2025.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is authorized as the certifying and regulatory body for Sports Footwear.
