Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Wood-Based Boards (Veneered particle boards) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released the "Wood Based Boards (Quality Control) Order, 2024," scheduled to take effect starting February 11, 2025.

However, for small enterprises as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, enforcement will begin on May 11, 2025, and for micro-enterprises, on August 11, 2025.

Under this order, Veneered particle boards must meet Indian Standard 3097:2006 and display the Standard Mark after obtaining a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under Scheme-1 as per Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Notably, this order excludes domestically manufactured goods or articles intended for export from its scope.

The Bureau of Indian Standards will oversee the certification and enforcement for Veneered particle boards.

Individuals found violating the provisions of this order will face penalties in accordance with the relevant legislation.
