Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Footwear made from Leather and other Materials (Shoes for Services and for General Purpose - Specification Part 1 Shoes for Services) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued the "Quality Control Order for Footwear made from Leather and other Materials, 2024," set to be enforced starting August 1, 2024.

According to this order, Shoes for Services and for General Purpose must comply with Indian Standard IS 17043 (Part-1): 2024, particularly the Shoes Specification Part 1 for Services. They must display the Standard Mark after obtaining a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

However, this order excludes goods or articles meant for export or micro and small manufacturing units as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006.

Furthermore, manufacturers certified by the BIS or those who have applied for certification before the implementation of this order can declare and sell their existing stock of footwear products without the BIS Mark until June 30, 2025.

The Bureau of Indian Standards has been appointed as the certifying and enforcing body for Shoes intended for Services and General Purpose.
