OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced the "Wood Based Boards (Quality Control) Order, 2024," scheduled to take effect starting February 11, 2025.

However, for small enterprises defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, enforcement will begin on May 11, 2025, and for micro-enterprises, on August 11, 2025.

According to this order, Particle boards made from wood and other lignocellulosic materials (medium density) for general purposes must comply with Indian Standard 3087:2005 and display the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under Scheme-1 as outlined in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It's crucial to note that this order excludes domestically manufactured goods or articles intended for export from its scope.

The Bureau of Indian Standards will oversee the certification and enforcement for Particle boards made from wood and other lignocellulosic materials (medium density) for general purposes.

Individuals found violating the provisions of this order will face penalties in accordance with the relevant legislation.
