Plain copier paper must be devoid of pinholes, featuring a well-calendered, smooth surface without fluff or loose fibers. Surface sizing with starch is recommended to prevent fluffiness. Additionally, the paper should demonstrate excellent dimensional stability, thermal stability, and minimal static charge.

Given that the equipment's operating temperature reaches around 100°C, the moisture content of the paper should be within the range of 4.0% to 5.5% when tested in accordance with IS 1060 (Part 1).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT FOR ECO MARK

The product needs to meet the quality and performance standards specified in the standard. Manufacturers seeking an Eco Mark must furnish an environmental clearance from the respective state pollution control board to the BIS.

Based on the raw materials utilized in manufacturing, the material will be categorized into two types:

Type A: The material should be manufactured from pulp consisting of a minimum of 60% by mass of non-bamboo, non-softwood, and non-recycled materials.

Type B: The material must be manufactured from pulp made entirely from waste paper.

A well-maintained laboratory is necessary for conducting various tests according to the methods outlined in the standard.

The packaging must display the required information as outlined in the standard. Additionally, each ream or reel must bear the ISI certification mark, and packaging and marking procedures should adhere to the specifications in IS 14490:2018. Manufacturers are required to acquire a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark). This license is granted after a thorough evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control measures, testing capabilities, and production processes.
