In today's competitive landscape, maintaining market presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Obtaining a BIS license may also be essential for selling products in the Indian market. To achieve BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must adhere to the specified Indian standards.
Lets delve deeper into IS 15449(Part 1):2004 for sewing machine.
This standard outlines the general requirements for zigzag sewing machine heads utilized in households. The Bureau of Indian Standards adopted this Indian Standard subsequent to the approval of the draft by the Sewing Machines Sectional Committee under the Light Mechanical Engineering Division Council.
The purpose of this standard is to establish uniformity in the fitting and operation of open-type shuttle races with other mating components of sewing machines. Sewing machines may feature single, twin, or both needle designs, incorporating a sewing mechanism capable of producing a two-thread lock stitch.
Sewing machines are required to feature a mechanism enabling the feed dog to perform reverse backtracking stitching. The stitch regulator must have the capability to control the feeding direction, allowing for changes while the machine is in operation. Additionally, each machine must include a thread tension arrangement for both upper and lower threads that can be adjusted to achieve the desired tension for satisfactory stitches.
Accuracy requirement: The zigzag sewing machine head must meet the accuracy specifications outlined in IS 15449 (Part 2).
Sewing requirements: The zigzag sewing machine head must adhere to the sewing specifications detailed in IS 15449 (Part 3).
Durability requirements: The zigzag sewing machine head must satisfy the durability criteria set forth in IS 15449 (Part 4).
Every sewing machine must be identified with a nameplate or screen print containing the model name and the manufacturer's name or trademark.
The zigzag sewing machine head may bear the standard mark (ISI Mark) as well. Manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark). This license is granted after a thorough evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, and quality control and testing capabilities during an inspection of the manufacturing premises.
Acquiring a BIS license requires a comprehensive review of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control abilities, testing resources, and production procedures. This thorough assessment guarantees that products not only adhere to regulations but also prioritize consumer safety and reliability.
