Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Footwear made from Leather and other Materials (Canvas Shoes Rubber Sole) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced the "Footwear made from Leather and other Materials (Quality Control) Order, 2024," scheduled to be enforced starting August 1, 2024.

According to the latest directive, Canvas Shoes with Rubber Soles must comply with Indian Standard IS 3735:1996. They are required to meet the specifications outlined for Canvas Shoes with Rubber Soles and display the Standard Mark, obtained through a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

However, this regulation excludes items intended for export or micro and small manufacturing units defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006.

Furthermore, manufacturers certified by the BIS or those who have submitted their certification applications before the implementation of this directive can legally declare and sell their existing inventory of footwear products lacking the BIS Mark until June 30, 2025.

The Bureau of Indian Standards has been appointed as the certifying and regulatory body for Canvas Shoes with Rubber Soles.
