OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently released a Quality Control Order titled "Plywood and Wooden Flush Door Shutters (Quality Control) Order, 2024."
This order will come into effect starting February 28, 2025.
However, for small enterprises as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, it will be enforced from May 28, 2025, and for micro enterprises, it will apply from August 28, 2025.
As per the order, cellular and hollow core type) - Plywood face panels) must comply with Indian Standard IS 2191 (Part 1):2022 and display the Standard Mark with a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
It is essential to highlight that this order excludes goods or articles produced domestically specifically for export.
The Bureau of Indian Standards has been appointed as the certifying and regulatory authority for cellular and hollow core type) - Plywood face panels) as outlined in this order.
Individuals who violate the provisions of this order will be subject to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
