The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has published a draft notification for the Automatic Sprinkler Heads for Fire Protection Service (Quality Control) Order, 2025. This regulation applies to products categorized as automatic sprinkler heads for fire protection service, which must meet the requirements stated in Indian Standard IS 9972:2023, Automatic Sprinkler Heads for Fire Protection Service.

Each covered product must carry the BIS Standard Mark, obtained under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in line with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

• General manufacturers (excluding micro and small enterprises): within 6 months of publication.

• Small enterprises: within 9 months of publication.

• Micro enterprises: within 12 months of publication.

The order does not apply to goods produced exclusively for export. BIS will be responsible for certification and enforcement of these products, and any breaches will be subject to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
