The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released a draft notification for the Refrigerated Storage Cabinets and Counters & Blast Chiller and Freezer Cabinets (Quality Control) Order, 2025. This order applies to products in these categories, which must comply with the specifications set out in Indian Standard IS 18801:2023, Refrigerated Storage Cabinets and Counters.

All covered products are required to display the BIS Standard Mark, issued under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

• General manufacturers (excluding micro and small enterprises): 6 months from publication

• Small enterprises: 9 months from publication.

• Micro enterprises: 12 months from publication.

Goods made solely for export are exempt. The BIS will serve as the certification and enforcement body for these products, and violations will attract penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
