The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a draft notice for the Steel Doors, Windows, Ventilators, and Fittings (Quality Control) Order, 2025.
This order covers products classified under Steel Doors, Windows, Ventilators, and Fittings, which must comply with the standards specified in Indian Standard IS 1038:1983, titled “Specification for Steel Doors, Windows and Ventilators.

All such items must display the BIS Standard Mark, issued under a licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

• General manufacturers (excluding micro and small enterprises): within 6 months from the order’s publication date.

• Small enterprises: within 9 months from publication.

• Micro enterprises: within 12 months from publication.

The order does not apply to goods made solely for export. BIS will act as the certification and enforcement authority for these products. Any breach of the order will invite penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
