Key notification on Indian Standard compliance for current licensees, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and sellers under the Steel Wire Ropes, Strands, Ring Net Panels, Rope Net Panels, and Rolls (Quality Control) Order, 2025.

BIS QCO mandates Steel Wire Rope Net Panels and Rolls meet IS/ISO 17746:2016 standards, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance under BIS certification.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released a draft notification titled “Steel Wire Ropes, Strands, Ring Net Panels, Rope Net Panels, and Rolls (Quality Control) Order, 2025.” This Order becomes effective from the date it is published in the Official Gazette. It applies to products classified as Steel Wire Ropes, Strands, Ring Net Panels, Rope Net Panels, and Rolls, which must comply with IS/ISO 17745:2016 – “Steel Wire Ring Net Panels.”
All such products are required to carry the BIS Standard Mark under a valid license, as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Implementation Timeline:

General Manufacturers (excluding Micro and Small Enterprises): Compliance within 6 months of publication.
Small Enterprises: Compliance within 9 months.
Micro Enterprises: Compliance within 12 months.

Note: Products made exclusively for export are exempt from this Order.

The BIS will be responsible for certification and enforcement. Anyone not following the provisions of this Quality Control Order will face penalties under the BIS Act, 2016.
