OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has launched the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023," a comprehensive directive for quality control.

The "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023" will take effect six months from its publication in the Official Gazette. It requires all cast iron products to comply with Indian Standard 1729:2002 (Cast iron/ductile iron drainage pipes and fittings for over-ground non-pressure pipelines) and display the Standard Mark, which must be obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It is important to note that this order does not apply to domestically manufactured goods or products intended for export.

Additionally, for small enterprises as defined in clauses (h) and (m) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), the order will take effect nine months after its publication.

For micro-enterprises, the order will come into effect twelve months from the date of publication.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for cast iron products.

Violations of this order will result in penalties as per the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

Stakeholders must adhere to the specified standards and regulations to ensure the quality and compliance of cast iron products in the market.
