OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has launched the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023," a new quality control regulation for cast iron products.

The "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023" will be enforced six months following its publication in the Official Gazette. This directive requires all cast iron products to comply with Indian Standard 13349:1992 for cast iron single-faced thimble-mounted sluice gates and to display the Standard Mark, which must be obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Note that this order does not apply to goods manufactured domestically or products intended for export.

For small enterprises, as defined in clauses (h) and (m) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), the order will take effect nine months after publication. Micro-enterprises will have twelve months from the date of publication to comply with the order.

The Bureau of Indian Standards has been appointed as the certifying and enforcement authority for Cast Iron Products.

Violations of the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023" will result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

Stakeholders must adhere to the specified standards and regulations to ensure the quality and compliance of cast iron products in the market.
