The "Potable Water Bottles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024," issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, will take effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

This Amendment Order adds a new proviso to the Potable Water Bottles (Quality Control) Order, 2024, specifying that the Order does not apply to bottles or articles manufactured or imported before its effective date.

Certified manufacturers and importers, or those who have applied for certification, may continue to sell or display existing stocks for up to six months from the commencement date, provided they submit a declaration certified by a Chartered Accountant to the Bureau.

Under this order, potable water bottles must adhere to the standards specified in Indian Standard IS 17803:2022 for Potable Water Bottles (Copper, Stainless Steel, Aluminium). These bottles must display the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in accordance with Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Exceptions to this order include goods or articles manufactured domestically for export or those produced by enterprises registered under the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises' "Udyam Portal" that meet specific financial criteria.
