Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Cast Iron Products (Cast iron/ductile won drainage pipes and pipe fittings for over-ground non-pressure pipeline socket and spigot Series) (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has implemented the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023," which will come into effect six months after its publication in the Official Gazette.

This regulation requires all cast iron products to comply with Indian Standard 1879:2010 (Malleable Cast Iron Pipe Fittings) and display the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II, in accordance with the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

This quality control directive does not apply to cast iron products manufactured domestically or those intended for export. Additionally, for small enterprises, as defined in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), the order will take effect nine months after its publication. For micro-enterprises, the order will be enforced twelve months from the publication date.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for Cast Iron Products under the new quality control directive.

Any breach of this order will result in penalties in accordance with the provisions specified in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
