Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Ropes and Cordages (Steel wire ropes – Fibre main cores) Quality Control Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Textiles has released the draft Ropes and Cordages (Quality Control) Order, 2024. It will become effective on April 1, 2025.
For Small and Micro Enterprises under the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (Act 27 of 2006), the Order will come into effect on July 1, 2025.
The Order applies to steel wire ropes with fiber main cores but excludes products intended for export.
Steel wire ropes must meet Indian Standard IS 1804:2004 and display the Standard Mark, which is obtained under a BIS license according to Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
QCO Order New
Textiles, specifically Manila ropes, must comply with Indian Standard IS 1084:2005 and display the Standard Mark. This mark is obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), following Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The Bureau of Indian Standards will act as the certifying and enforcing authority for compliance with this Order for steel wire ropes with fiber main cores.
