Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Medical Textiles (Sanitary Napkins) (Quality Control) Order, 2023.
Medical Textiles (Sanitary Napkins)
OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Textiles has announced an extension for the Quality Control Order, 2023, which will take effect on January 1, 2025.
This order specifically pertains to products such as Sanitary Napkins, excluding those meant for export and items produced by Self Help Groups (SHGs).
Self Help Groups (SHGs) are defined as small informal collectives of 10 to 20 individuals who voluntarily unite based on similar social and economic backgrounds. Their primary goal is to encourage savings habits and collectively manage resources for mutual benefit. In hilly or tribal areas, smaller groups with at least 5 members can also form SHGs.
To ensure compliance, Sanitary Napkins must conform to the Indian Standard IS 5405:2019 and display the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in accordance under Scheme – I of Schedule – II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The Bureau of Indian Standards is the appointed certifying and enforcing authority for Sanitary Napkins as outlined in this Order.
Any violations of the provisions outlined in this Order will be subject to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
