Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Ropes and Cordages (Fibre ropes – Polypropylene split film, monofilament and multifilament (PP2) and polypropylene hightenacity multifilament (PP3) – 3-, 4-, 8- and 12-strand ropes) Quality Control Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles has released the Ropes and Cordages (Quality Control) Order, 2024. It will become effective six months following its publication in the Official Gazette. For Small and Micro Enterprises, as defined by the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, it will be effective nine months after publication.

The Order applies to polypropylene fiber ropes, including split film, monofilament, multifilament (PP2), and high-tenacity multifilament (PP3) in 3-, 4-, 8-, and 12-strand configurations. It excludes ropes intended for export.

These ropes must meet Indian Standard IS 5175:2022 and display the Standard Mark, obtained through a BIS license under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority for these ropes.
