Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Cast Iron Products (Malleable cast iron pipe fittings) (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has launched the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023," a new quality control directive aimed at enhancing standards for cast iron products.

The "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023" will take effect six months after its publication in the Official Gazette. This new directive requires all cast iron products to comply with Indian Standard 1879:2010 for malleable cast iron pipe fittings and to display the Standard Mark. The Standard Mark must be obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II, as outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Please note that the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023" does not apply to domestically produced goods or items intended for export.

Additionally, small enterprises, as defined in clauses (h) and (m) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), will be required to comply with the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023" starting nine months after its publication.

For micro-enterprises, the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023" will come into effect twelve months after its publication.

The Bureau of Indian Standards has been appointed as the certifying and enforcement authority for Cast Iron Products.

Violations of the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023" will result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

Stakeholders must adhere to the specified standards and regulations to ensure the quality and compliance of cast iron products in the market.
