Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2024.
Title and Scope: The order is named the "Safety of Household, Commercial, and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2024." It encompasses all electrical appliances designed for household, commercial, or similar applications with a rated voltage of up to 250V for single-phase AC or 415V for three-phase AC. Appliances already governed by other Quality Control Orders under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act are excluded from this order.
Effective Date: This order will take effect six months after its publication in the E-Gazette. Stay updated on the latest quality control regulations for electrical appliances!

Compliance Requirements: All listed appliances must comply with Indian Standard IS 302 (Part 1): 2008, which outlines safety requirements for household and similar electrical appliances. These appliances must also bear the Standard Mark, obtained under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in accordance with Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Exemptions: This order does not cover goods produced domestically for export purposes. Stay informed about the exemptions related to this order. Small and micro enterprises, as defined by the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, must adhere to the following compliance timelines:
General Implementation: Compliance is required within six months from the publication date. Stay updated on the implementation timeline for this order!
Small Enterprises: Nine months from the publication date.
Micro Enterprises: Compliance is required within twelve months from the publication date. Stay informed about the timeline for micro enterprises!
Enforcement Authority: The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority to ensure compliance with this order.
Penalties: Any individual or entity that violates the provisions of this order will face penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. Stay informed about the R&D provisions and compliance requirements for electrical appliances.)
