OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has launched a new quality control regulation titled the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023." This comprehensive directive aims to enhance the standards of cast iron products.

The "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023" will take effect six months after its publication in the Official Gazette. This regulation requires all cast iron products to comply with Indian Standard 1537:1976, which covers vertically cast-iron pressure pipes for water, gas, and sewage. Additionally, products must display the Standard Mark, which can be obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It is important to note that the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023" does not apply to cast iron products that are domestically manufactured or those intended for export.

Additionally, for small enterprises, as outlined in clauses (h) and (m) of Section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023" will come into effect nine months after the date of publication.

For micro-enterprises, the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023" will be applicable twelve months following its publication date.

The Bureau of Indian Standards has been appointed as the certifying and enforcement authority for Cast Iron Products.

Violations of the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023" will result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

Stakeholders must adhere to the specified standards and regulations to ensure the quality and compliance of cast iron products in the market.
